Meaning of the Internet

Internet (short for interconnection-networking) is an entire communication network that uses electronic media, which are connected to each other using the global system standard Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) as a packet switching communication protocol to serve billions of users. around the world. The largest network network is called the Internet. This way of connecting a network with this rule is called internetworking ("internetwork").

Internet History

The Internet is a computer network formed by the United States Department of Defense in 1969, through an ARPA project called the ARPANET (Advanced Research Project Agency Network), where they demonstrated how with UNIX-based computer hardware and software, we can communicate over long distances. infinity over the telephone line.

The ARPANET project designed the shape of the network, its reliability, how much information could be transferred, and finally all the standards they set became the forerunner to the construction of a new protocol now known as TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol).

At first the ARPANET only connected 4 sites, namely the Stanford Research Institute, the University of California, Santa Barbara, the University of Utah, where they formed an integrated network in 1969, and in general the ARPANET was introduced in October 1972. Not long after this project rapidly growing across the region, and all the universities in the country wanted to join, making it difficult for the ARPANET to manage.

Therefore the ARPANET was split into two, namely the "MILNET" for military purposes and the new, smaller "ARPANET" for non-military purposes such as universities. The combination of the two networks eventually became known as DARPA Internet, which was later simplified to become the Internet.

Internet access

Countries with the best Internet access include South Korea (50% of the population have broadband access), and Sweden. There are two common forms of Internet access, namely dial-up and broadband. In Indonesia, such as developing countries where Internet access and PC penetration are already quite high with the support of cheap Internet and cheap netbooks, it's just that in Indonesia operators are not fair in determining prices and there is even one operator who deliberately creates a "trap" so that Internet users pay more. Others about 42% of Internet access through Public Internet Access facilities such as internet cafes, cybercafes, hotspots etc. Other public places that are often used for Internet access are on campuses and offices.

Besides using a PC (Personal Computer), we can also access the Internet via Mobile (HP) using a facility called GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). GPRS is one of the wireless communication standards (wireless) which has a connection speed of 115 kbps and supports a wider range of applications (graphics and multimedia). GPRS technology is accessible which supports the facility. GPRS settings on the phone depend on the operator used. Internet access costs are calculated by the amount of capacity (per-kilobyte) downloaded

According to Dominik (2009) internet connection is a system of computers that can connect someone remotely. Internet connection can be channeled through telephone cables, fiber optic cables and cables that are built with a specific purpose.

The history of the internet began in the early 1970s with the emergence of Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA) which is a system belonging to the United States Department of Defense (US Department of Defense) which is focused on protecting computer networks against nuclear attacks because the Pentagon does not want to lose data and communication systems. what was built was destroyed.

The fear of losing these data makes computer experts think about decentralizing all systems by creating an interconnected web of computers so that all computers can be connected to other computers. The information contained in the system is called the Internet Protocol Packet which contains the destination address of another computer.

In 1990 engineers working in the physics laboratory of Switzserland created an interconnection system in computers that could display hypertext, text and visual images called the World Wide Web (WWW). Internet members to search for information.

In 1993 it was found a navigation that can make it easier for users to find what they want to find, the browser or browser tool that was invented the first time was Mosaic which made a graphical display for users that simplifies internet navigation that can be used to retrieve data as needed and configure the data to be displayed. displayed.

Then in 1994, Microsoft as the largest software company released their browser tool, namely Internet Explorer.

Then in 1998, Google was the first search engine invented and has a function to scan the information that users want on the internet. In addition, another search engine is Yahoo! which is very useful in helping users to use the internet to become a useful information search tool

In the mid-2000s the development of the internet began rapidly and made the internet an easy-to-use software program for uploading content to the internet so that in that year many blogs, video sharing sites, social networking sites emerged.

History of Social Media in the World

The emergence of social networking media in the world began with the emergence of Friendster in 2002 which is an application to build friendship relationships in cyberspace with a wide scope, namely the whole world. After the emergence of Friendster, the next social media is Linkendin, a site that shares experiences about the world of business and work which was founded in the same year.

In 2004, Flickr appeared, a site that gave its users space to upload interesting photos and videos that could be shared with members on the site.

Still in the same year, the emergence of Facebook as a social networking media that allows us to exchange private and group messages both pictures and videos, in Facebook we can also send friend requests to all users of the site in the world.

After that, in 2006 a new networking site re-emerged, namely Twitter. The site is a social network that allows us to follow (follow) other users to be able to follow the posts they make. This site also allows us to upload images and videos and can send messages to other users.
4 years later, in 2010 Instagram emerged as a social networking site that provides facilities for editing photos and videos and then uploading them. The interaction built on this site can be in the form of a like button, comment field and sending messages via Direct Message (DM).

Line is the next social networking site that appeared in 2011. Unlike other social networking sites, line focuses on using applications to exchange messages. The system for adding friends on Line can be found by using the add system using username/id. However, on this site, users are also allowed to upload photos and videos in the timeline.

Then in the same year, Snapchat is a social networking site that facilitates users to exchange messages with editable photo mediums such as entering text messages and using effects on photos.

Furthermore, in 2011, Google+ is an online site that has features in it that can be used to interact. Like Google Hangout for exchanging messages. In 2019, to be precise in July the Google+ social network was removed by Google itself. The reason is because it is rarely used or many account owners are inactive.

The emergence of Friendster in 2002 in Indonesia had become a booming social networking site among teenagers at that time positioned Indonesia as the 3rd most Friendster user in the world. Friendster is used by users to get acquainted via cyberspace and as a means to exchange messages.
After that Facebook appeared in 2004, but the prestige of Facebook in Indonesia rose in 2008 and began to shift Friendster as a means of getting acquainted via cyberspace. The features offered by Facebook are also much more diverse, such as there are games applications in it.

In 2009 Twitter emerged as a simpler social networking site by focusing on presenting a timeline containing the status of the people we follow along with a comment column, a retweet/like column. This site can also be a medium for exchanging messages via Direct Message but we cannot see users who are online.

Still in the same year, an application-based social networking site appeared, namely Whatsapp, but in that year this application had not been asked by many people. This application focuses on exchanging messages between individuals and groups through several options, namely text, calls and video calls.

Furthermore, in 2010 Instagram became the most popular social networking site in Indonesia. This site focuses on self-actualization through editable photos and videos. Interaction on this site can be realized through the like button, commenting in the comments column or sending messages to other users.
Line in 2011 was used as a medium for exchanging messages on a daily basis, this social networking site focuses on exchanging messages both in groups and individually with other individuals. In addition to exchanging messages, Line is also equipped with a timeline feature and several other features such as games. Users can add friends to each other by using the add friend feature.

Snapchat also appeared in Indonesia in the same year, 2011, this application is in demand because it is different from other messaging applications that use text, this application focuses on visuals, both photos and videos accompanied by image, sound and text effects that can be entered in in it. Users can share it with their public audience i.e. people who follow it or send it privately to other accounts.
